Another Reflection

It has been a long time since I updated this. A lot has happened since the last time, most importantly this:

After my graduation and last finals, I got a chance to go to Germany and Nigeria. I haven’t been to Nigeria since 2001, and many things had changed, with some remaining the same. My cousins and family had all grown and aged, just as I have. One of the most important things I got to see was the two extremes of life. My experience there gave me a taste of many aspects of life that one cannot see simply by staying in the same place or doing the same thing everyday. I got to see extreme poverty and underdevelopment. This humbled me even more. Everyday, we complain for the dumbest and most insignificant things. Some are mad that they didn’t get the iPhone or Android device they wanted, and others complain about their car, their flight or bus route. My time overseas made me realize how blessed I am to even have a smartphone, to even be able to drive, or the fact that I CAN SIT IN A CHAIR IN THE SKY for a few hours and arrive in another country all while enjoying a MOVIE or my mp3 player (Louis C.K. reference)

I know I’m guilty of taking things for granted. All of these things are great creations and blessings that we take for granted everyday, while some are just looking for today’s meal, electricity for more than 5 hours, or even clean water. On the other end, I saw people with more money than many will have in their entire lives. I saw mansions for a small family of 3 that was so big, that strangers could be living inside and the family would not know. I saw people with an army of security, and I saw people trying to decide between gas for their car, or one meal for today. The government removed the fuel subsidy in Nigeria shortly before I left, and this caused a lot of dispute and hardship. If this was a necessary step, then I think it should have been done gradually instead of so abruptly. The entire trip was very worthwhile. I got a lot of good out of it, and it changed my perspective on a lot of things. The most important thing was seeing the family that has been so far away.

There are many more pictures, and friends can find them on Facebook or Google+ soon. Now that I’m back in Austin, I’ve been relaxing for the most part, spending time with friends, family, and My Love Gloria :-). Everyone says I should enjoy this time, and I agree, but at the same time I am learning android app development, which is something that I have always wanted to do ever since I got the first android phone on October 22nd, 2008, the HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1). Then I moved on to the European Unlocked HTC Hero in September of 2009, and onto my current phone, the HTC Desire Z (T-Mobile G2) on October 3rd, 2010. I’m still very happy with my G2. It’s still working great, and I need to not be a hypocrite and just enjoy this phone while it is still working so well. I know that I’ve spent my life in a developed nation, and I’m used to having or expecting certain things, but from now on I’m going to make an effort to better separate wants and needs. For now, I’m going to relax, but learn more to prepare for the future. I want to make a difference in as many lives as I can who have real struggles, but eventually I’ll need more money and resources to do so. All in all though, I’m happy, and I have a good and blessed life. Since I’ve been back, I went to the Blanton Museum of Art for the first time with Gloria,

been to some nice food places, saw Chronicle (which was an amazing and realistic movie in the sense that the characters were believable), been to Easy Tiger (if you ever are in Austin, you MUST try this place. It is an amazing new bakery and beer garden), had a wonderful Valentines Day, and know what I want for my future. There was much more that I could have added here, but I’ll save it for a later time. Take care everyone. If you can stay humble, then you can stay happy. You may not have everything you want, but it’s likely that you have everything you need to smile. If you truly aren’t happy, then do something about it, and don’t forget the many great things in life you already have. The fact that you can even read this post means that you at least have Internet access. Time for all of us to change our futures.

Still rolling off this comedian. ‎”could you give it a second… its going to space, could you give it a second to get back from space? is the speed of light too slow for you, you non-contributing product sponge ****” I shouldn’t have complained about the Nokia’s we got in Cordoba and not having WiFi at my Host House. v__v So humbling!
“You may not have everything you want, but it’s likely that you have everything you need to smile. If you truly aren’t happy, then do something about it, and don’t forget the many great things in life you already have.” Look at my Manfriend being all sensai and stuffs. <3 <3 <3
